Pavement Resilience Web Meeting

The SPPCC organized and hosted a pavement resilience web meeting with FHWA and state and local transportation agencies over two half-day periods on January 14 and January 15, serving to identify existing knowledge gaps and needs for future work to improve the resilience of road networks.

The key goals included:

  1. Identify key issues that impact pavement resilience.
  2. Develop strategies to address these issues.
  3. Define means to assess the effectiveness of implemented strategies.
  4. Explore barriers and gaps in advancing pavement resilience initiatives.

The meeting served as an important component in the overall work order (WO B.1.1 Incorporating Resilience in Pavements: Five-year Work Look Ahead) which has the following objectives:

  1. Formally define the SPPCC scope with respect to resilience and how its effort will support and supplement ongoing efforts at FHWA and in the concrete and asphalt pavement cooperative agreement centers;
  2. Identify the knowledge gaps that are within the SPPCC scope and that the center could address through future year work orders; and
  3. Document the gaps and opportunities that future year work orders could address and their connections with past, ongoing, and future development and implementation
